Newly appointed ministers, deputies share their aspirations

PETALING JAYA: As they clock in for the first day in office, ministers and deputies share their aspirations to continue to serve the people.

Among them is Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, who said he is focusing to explore all available efforts and options to ensure a secure position for the country’s economy.

“World economic growth is expected to slow down at least until 2027 with issues of geopolitical tension, economic uncertainty and global trade still being the main challenges to economic growth.

“The responsible action to face this challenge is to explore all available efforts and options so that we can do our best to position the economy in the best possible way even though we are faced with very difficult challenges.

“God willing, this concern will drive my focus in determining the priorities that need to be taken,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Sharing his “second-time” to be sworn in, Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan, is now officially the Minister in charge of Religious Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Department.

He previously held the deputy minister position under the same ministry, with Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar as the minister.

Zulkifli was sworn-in as the deputy minister for the first time on Dec 12, 2023.

“This is the time to continue to fulfil the trust given and shoulder the responsibility with full sincerity, wisdom, compassion and wisdom,” he said in a post accompanied with photos of the swearing in event on his Facebook account.

Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah president Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup said he will shoulder the responsibility as the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister with sincerity and high commitment.

“I will shoulder this trust with full responsibility, sincerity and high commitment to ensure sustainable management of the country’s natural resources, effective environmental protection and a balance between development and sustainability for the well-being of present and future generations,” he said.

Datuk Shahar Abdullah, who is now Deputy Economy Minister, said he will focus on supporting Akmal’s efforts to strengthen economic resilience.

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol said he aims to fully understand the role and needs of the ministry, in addition to supporting existing efforts in youth and sports development, especially at the grassroots level.
