KUALA LUMPUR: The upgrading project for the Labuan Vehicle and Passenger Ferry Terminal Jetty, a vital link between the federal territory and Sabah as well as Brunei, is scheduled for full completion on April 6, 2028.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the project was implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
"The efficiency and reliability of jetty infrastructure are critical to ensuring the smooth movement of people, goods and services, as well as supporting inter-regional economic growth," he said in his speech for the Handing Over of Letter of Acceptance (LOA) ceremony for the project, with a contract value of RM20.3mil, to CitaGlobal Land Sdn Bhd at Menara Kerja Raya here on Thursday (Dec 18).
Works Department director-general Datuk Seri Roslan Ismail read his speech.
According to Nanta, the scope of work for the project under the Transport Ministry includes widening the vehicle waiting area, constructing new ticket counters, repairing the main ramp structure, upgrading the second ramp, reclamation works and constructing passenger waiting areas and agency inspection facilities.
He also stated that the Transport Infrastructure Engineering Branch (CKIP) successfully issued 16 LOAs totalling RM195.8mil, involving several ministries and state governments.
"The handing over of these LOAs not only reflects CKIP's efficiency in project implementation this year, but also has a significant impact on contractors, the construction industry supply chain, economic growth and the overall well-being of the people," he said.
At a press conference after the ceremony, Roslan said that infrastructure upgrade projects nationwide would be closely monitored.
He said contractors were responsible for completing projects within the specified period, and any delays would be considered for an Extension of Time (EOT) only if eligibility requirements were met; failure without justification may result in penalties or Liquidated and Ascertained Damages (LAD). – Bernama
