SPOT-Me gains momentum

PETALING JAYA: Over 190,000 civil servants have registered for the SPOT-Me application, which allows them to record their attendance while working remotely.

The National Digital Department (JDN) said the application has since recorded 190,072 active users from 1,190 registered agencies, including those at the state and federal levels.

“The number of applications is expected to increase as more people opt for the SPOT-Me application as the main platform to record civil servants’ attendance and movement as well as a digital monitoring system for all government departments and agencies.

“This development reflects the level of trust and confidence of users in the system’s ability to support the daily operations of the government,” it said.

JDN said SPOT-Me has been working satisfactorily since the implementation of work from home (WFH) began on April 15.

On April 1, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the implementation of a WFH policy involving ministries, agencies, statutory bodies and government-linked companies.

“Since the implementation of WFH, no critical complaints have been recorded, and the system has been operating without significant disruption or downtime,” JDN said, adding that it is continuously monitoring the application to ensure its performance remains optimal while also improving user experience.

“There are some isolated issues regarding geolocation accuracy, which are typically influenced by external factors such as network connectivity, GPS signal strength and user device specifications.

“However, these technical issues do not affect the overall smooth implementation of WFH among civil servants,” it said.

On user privacy concerns, JDN said SPOT-Me’s use of geolocation is limited to attendance monitoring purposes, in line with the government’s ICT security policy and data protection guidelines.

“Access to data is limited to authorised parties and controlled through strict governance mechanisms to prevent any misuse.

“As a measure to strengthen security, there are plans to integrate SPOT-Me with the MyDigital ID platform to improve user identity verification capabilities,” it said.

JDN also advised civil servants to always practise a high level of integrity when using the application, particularly in attendance and movement recording.

“Civil servants must always be aware of the security of their respective devices, including not sharing passwords with other parties to avoid the risk of information leaks and data security breaches.

“Any technical issues or challenges related to the use of the application must be reported immediately to the JDN for follow-up action,” it added.

It said it has also received feedback from users and will improve certain features to further increase the convenience and flexibility of the application.

Meanwhile, in a Bernama report yesterday, Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz said RM1.9mil in RON95 petrol subsidies, equivalent to 979,632 litres, in savings were made over 10 days since the WFH initiative began.

He said the savings involved 120,816 litres of petrol, or RM239,215.68 per day.

He said 20,136 civil servants are currently participating in the WFH arrangement, up from 15,452 on April 15.
