Sabah needs closer federal-state cooperation on environment, says Jafry

KOTA KINABALU: The federal and state ministries in charge of the environment have reaffirmed their commitment to working more closely with the Sabah government to find better approaches in balancing development and conservation, says Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin.

Jafry and Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup paid a courtesy call to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor to share their vision for sustainable development initiatives.

Jafry said the visit provided an important platform to align priorities and deliberate Sabah’s environmental direction, particularly in ensuring a balanced approach between development and conservation.

"Our focus remains clear, to ensure that every policy and initiative is not only sustainable, but also delivers tangible and lasting benefits for the people and future generations," he said.

"Together with Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, we share a collective responsibility in advancing the nation's environmental governance and sustainability agenda," he added.

Jafry said the strength of the unity government lies in its stability and cohesive collaboration, which enables policymakers to formulate policies that are consistent, strategic and impactful for the people.
