MELAKA: Melaka police will cooperate with the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) directive to reclassify the investigation into the fatal shooting of three suspects in Durian Tunggal here as a murder case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
State top cop Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said his contingent had handed over the investigation into the incident to Bukit Aman.
“We didn't interfere in any way, and this reflects transparency in the conduct of the investigation, and we accept whatever decision is made.
“If it's proven that any party is involved in wrongdoing, we will ensure that appropriate action is taken,” he said on Wednesday (Dec 17).
On Tuesday (Dec 16), the AGC directed that the investigation into the case involving three men who were shot dead by police during an operation here be reclassified as a murder investigation.
In a statement, the AGC said it had been consulted on the case report and, based on briefings and recommendations submitted by the police, agreed to order the reclassification of the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
DCP Dzulkhairi said he takes full responsibility as the Melaka police chief in all circumstances and added that the morale and commitment of officers and personnel in the contingent remained unaffected.
"We will continue to ensure that public safety and order in the state are always maintained.
“Our spirit remains strong and our personnel are carrying out their duties as usual in accordance with procedures and the law,” he said.
DCP Dzulkhairi added that from the very beginning, he had emphasised to officers and personnel the importance of carrying out their duties with sincerity.
He also confirmed that a police officer who was injured after being slashed with a machete during the same operation has since been discharged from the hospital and is in stable condition, although he remains on medical leave.
On Nov 24, three men in their 20s were shot dead after one of them allegedly swung a machete at a policeman at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, at about 4.30am, causing a corporal to sustain serious injuries to his left arm.
Melaka police said all the suspects from the Durian Tunggal Gang were believed to be on their way to rob a premise and had been active in committing crimes since 2024, involving 20 cases in Melaka and one case each in Negeri Sembilan and Selangor, with total losses amounting to RM1.35mil.
