Mustapha says committed to fighting for state rights in his new portfolio


KOTA KINABALU: Newly-appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs), Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, is committed to fighting for state rights under his new portfolio.

“This appointment is a huge responsibility for me and I will work towards fostering stronger relations between the Federal, Sabah and Sarawak governments to coordinate and implement policies,” he said in a Facebook post Tuesday (Dec 16).

His objective is to carry Sabah and Sarawak as equal partners in the federation of Malaysia.

“This is in line with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which is the basis of the formation of this country,” said Mustapha.

He thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for entrusting him with such an important task in his Cabinet reshuffle.

The Sepanggar MP and former Deputy Higher Education Minister also thanked his former minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and the ministry’s support and cooperation when he was with them.

“I will work hard to continue works done for Sabah and Sarawak’s rights that have already started under the Madani government,” he added.
