Fahmi among 98 recognised at Ruler’s birthday celebration
KLANG: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil was among 98 people who received state awards and honours at the investiture ceremony in conjunction with Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s 80th birthday celebration.
Fahmi was bestowed the Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Selangor (DPMS) award, which carries the title Datuk for men and Datin Paduka for women.
Heading the list this year was Tengku Zerafina Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who was conferred the Darjah Kerabat Selangor Yang Amat DiHormati (DKll). She is the eldest of Sultan Sharafuddin’s three children.
The two recipients of the Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS) award, which carries the title Datuk Seri were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah.
Three recipients of the Dato’ Setia-Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (SSIS) award, which carries the title Datuk Setia for men and Datin Paduka Setia for women, were Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) deputy chairman Tan Sri Mazlan Mansor, YTL Corporation Bhd executive director Datuk Mark Yeoh and Subang Jaya Medical Centre orthopaedic surgery consultant Datuk Dr Anuar Onah.
Besides Fahmi, 15 others who received the DPMS were Selangor state financial officer Datuk Dr Haniff Zainal Abidin, Selangor executive councillor Datuk Rizam Ismail, Federal Court judge Datuk Azimah Omar, Appeals Court judge Ong Chee Kwan, Universiti Putra Malaysia deputy chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abd Razak, Selangor Education Department director Dr Jafri Abu, Girl Guides Association Malaysia’s Selangor branch president Datin Seri Utama Johanna Adrina Raja Arshad, IOI Properties Group Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Lee Yeow Seng and Kuok Brothers Sdn Bhd managing director Kuok Meng Xiong.
Fifteen people received the Dato’-Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (DSIS) award which carries the title Datuk for male recipients and Datin Paduka for female recipients. They were Sultan Sharafuddin’s nephew Orang Besar Istana Tengku Seri Perkasa Diraja Tengku Musahiddin Shah Tengku Abdul Samad Shah, Second Malaysian Infantry Brigade Commander Brig-Jen Mohd Rosli Abu Bakar, Army Academy commandant Brig-Jen Mohd Sauffi Omar, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail, Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon, Port Klang Authority general manager K. Subramaniam, Valiram group managing director Ashvin Jethanand Valiram, artist Yusof Ghani, Istana Alam Shah Royal Mosque Imam Mohd Rasid Mahful and Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad managing director Datuk Mohd Imran Tan Sri Mohamad Salim.
Two athletes were among those who received awards specifically for sports figures.
National bodybuilder Ahmad Faiz Ariffin received the Ahli Kegemilangan Sukan Selangor (AKS), while tower runner Soh Wai Ching received the Bintang Kecemerlangan Sukan Selangor (BKS).
Ten people received the Setia Makhota Selangor (SMS) and 10 were awarded the Setia-Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (SIS), while 15 people received the Ahli Makhota Selangor (AMS) and 15 received the Ahli-Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (AIS) award. Seven people received the Bintang Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (BPC).
The ceremony was attended by Selangor Raja Muda Tengku Amir Shah and his wife Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz, who took her place on the main dais at the event yesterday.
Both Tengku Amir Shah and Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini were seated flanking Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin respectively in accordance to protocol and royal hierarchy.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari spoke on the state’s economic excellence in his pledge of allegiance speech at the ceremony.
