Seremban cops probing babysitter over death of 12-month-old girl

SEREMBAN: Police have launched an investigation after a 12-month-old girl died under the care of a 32-year-old babysitter.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Azahar Abdul Rahim said the mother of the child brought the infant to a private clinic.

"The doctor performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the unconscious baby but was unsuccessful.

"A post-mortem examination conducted later at the Rembau Hospital revealed the victim had abdominal injuries," he said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 11).

ACP Azahar said the babysitter had been looking after the girl for five months.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

The provision makes it an offence for any person having the care of a child to abuse, neglect, abandon or expose the child to danger in a manner that causes or is likely to cause physical or emotional injury.
