Sarawak Head of State celebrates multiculturalism at pre-Christmas dinner

KUCHING: Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar joined religious leaders at a pre-Christmas dinner on Wednesday (Dec 10) night, highlighting the state’s multicultural harmony.

The event, organised by the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) and the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS), brought together leaders from various faiths. Wan Junaidi was accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, daughters Sharifah Fariah and Sharifah Nong-Jasima, and son-in-law Muhammad Nur Hakeem.

They were welcomed by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, Unifor director Datuk Georgina Apphia Ngau, ACS chairman Datuk Danald Jute, and other religious leaders.

Dr Sim stated that the Head of State’s presence reflected his role as a leader for all Sarawakians.

Danald expressed appreciation to Wan Junaidi for proposing the event, which brought together people of different faiths and races.

The evening featured choir and musical performances by church groups, adding to the festive atmosphere. Wan Junaidi also presented contributions to The Salvation Army Kuching Children Care Centre, Home of Peace, and Sarawak Cheshire Home.

In a surprise gesture, the organisers presented a cake to Wan Junaidi and Fauziah for their wedding anniversary, which coincided with the event.

Wan Junaidi thanked the organisers for their warm welcome and urged Sarawakians to continue living together in peace, harmony and mutual respect.
