IPOH: The call by 14 Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Perak divisions for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down as president does not represent the official stance of the party’s state leadership.
In a joint statement, Bersatu division chiefs in the state clarified that checks revealed only nine division chiefs attended the press conference led by Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) member Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, while the rest were not division chiefs.
"Other individuals present attended in a personal capacity and cannot be regarded as representing the collective position of Perak’s division leadership," the statement said.
The statement was issued in response to media reports on Wednesday (Dec 10) regarding calls from 14 Bersatu Perak divisions for Muhyiddin to resign, citing his failure to resolve the party’s internal crisis.
The statement also said bringing internal party issues into the public sphere through an open press conference was inappropriate and contrary to party discipline.
They stressed that, as an MPT member, Zainol Fadzi should have channelled any views or differences through the Supreme Leadership Council meetings, not in a manner that could create confusion among grassroots members.
"Such actions damage the party’s image and give an inaccurate perception of the stability and unity of Bersatu leadership in Perak. This situation only benefits opponents," the statement added.
A total of 14 division chiefs who signed the statement also expressed full and unwavering support for Muhyiddin as Bersatu president and committed to strengthening preparations for the 16th General Election.
Those supporting the statement include Perak Bersatu chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (Tambun); Dr Hashim Bujang (Kuala Kangsar); Datuk Muhammad Yadzan Mohammad (Tanjong Malim); and division chiefs from Batu Gajah, Ipoh Barat, Bagan Datuk, Taiping, Lenggong, Lumut, Parit Buntar, Sungai Siput, Gerik, Beruas and Parit.
