Firefighters save eight from rising floodwaters at a school in Bintulu


BINTULU: Firefighters rescued eight individuals, including teachers and students, when floodwaters cut off access to SK Kampung Nyalau near here.

Operation Commander PPgB Irwin Abidin, who is also the Samalaju Fire Station chief, said the incident occurred at around 8.34am on Wednesday (Dec 10). A team of six firefighters was deployed to the scene using a rescue boat when the Fire and Rescue Department received the emergency call.

“Upon arrival, we found eight victims from three families trapped by floodwaters. All were successfully evacuated using our rescue boat,” he said.

The victims comprised three adult men, three adult women and two boys. They were taken to their nearest relatives’ homes for temporary shelter.
