32-year-old father pleads guilty to sexual assault charges against young girls

SEREMBAN: A 32-year-old father of two pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court here to committing physical sexual assault on three young girls and to a fourth charge of indecent exposure against another victim.

Muhamad Azizzuan Arsemi did not contest the charges after these were read to him before judge N. Kanageswari on Wednesday (Dec 10).

For the first charge, the accused was charged with committing physical sexual assault against a seven-year-old girl at a children's playground in Taman Senawang Indah around 6.40pm on Nov 21.

For the second and third, he was charged with committing the same on two victims aged eight and nine along the roadside in Taman Jasmin Indah around 6.30pm on Dec 3.

Azizzuan, who works as a factory operator, was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

For the fourth charge, he was charged with committing non-physical sexual assault on a 12-year-old girl at the Taman Jasmin Indah children's playground at 5.54pm on Nov 25.

He was charged under section 15(a)(i) of the same Act, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine not exceeding RM20,000 or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni then told the court that the prosecution was not offering the accused bail pending sentencing because he had committed serious offences.

"The accused committed the crimes against four different young victims and at different places.

"If he is given bail, he may continue with his crime spree or may even abscond," she said, adding that there was also a possibility he may harass the victims.

The accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a low bail, adding that he was remorseful for his actions.

He told the court he also had to provide for his young children and sick mother.

Judge Kanageswari concurred with the prosecution and refused bail to the accused.

"The court will not be offering you bail as you had committed serious crimes against children," she said.

She then fixed Dec 16 for sentencing.
