KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) chief Chan Loong Wei has lodged a police report over a fake letter circulating on social media.
The document falsely claims that Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe wrote to the Chief Minister to recommend party members for appointments.
In a statement on Tuesday (Dec 9), Chan said the so-called letter, dated Dec 5, carried no signature, stamp or party letterhead, and appeared to be a photograph taken off a computer screen — signs that it was “clearly neither genuine nor official”.
He said the party has not issued any letter to the Chief Minister nor made any proposal for government positions since the election concluded.
He added that Sabah DAP also met on the night of Dec 7 and unanimously reaffirmed its stand not to join the state government.
“We urge the public not to circulate unverified documents,” he said, stressing that the allegations were completely untrue.
Chan said Phoong had already taken political responsibility immediately after the election, and the facts show he has not been appointed to any position.
“Phoong remains committed to moving forward and serving the people. The public should also look ahead and avoid unnecessary political speculation or hostility,” he said.
Chan added that Sabah DAP will continue its people-centred work and “will not be swayed by misinformation”.
Earlier today, Phoong has also refuted the authenticity of the circulating letter, saying in a Facebook statement that he had never sent any such letter to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
The viral letter appears to propose party members for appointments in state government-linked companies (GLCs).
