Plans to develop Kampung Temelong into tourism hotspot

LENGGONG: Kampung Temelong was selected under the Madani Adopted Village programme due to Pulau Temelong’s great potential to be developed into a new rural recreation and tourism destination.

National Youth and Sports Department director-general Azura Abidin said the area’s natural beauty provides a distinct advantage for developing recreational activities and water-based tourism, making it a potential hub for sports tourism and eco-tourism.

“We at the Youth and Sports Ministry will continue to plan and carry out various activities here, focusing on recreation, eco-tourism and eco-education.

“Starting next year, we will implement several programmes to foster better cooperation with the local community and youth groups.

“They will be encouraged to explore and enjoy the natural surroundings, alongside the activities provided,” she told the media after launching the Madani Adopted Village in Kampung Temelong with Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.

Earlier in her speech, Azura said infrastructure upgrades, including improvements to the jetty, roads, restroom facilities, campsites, halls and an open surau, had been carried out to enhance the safety and comfort of visitors to Pulau Temelong.

“Over 10 key works have been completed with a project value of nearly RM1mil. This investment is expected to significantly boost community development and the tourism sector in Kampung Temelong,” she said.

Azura noted that Pulau Temelong offers a wide range of activities.

It provides not only a campsite but also water sports such as rafting, kayaking and fishing, which are increasingly popular among the youth and recreation enthusiasts, she added.

“I have been informed that recreational bookings for Pulau Temelong are fully booked from January to February 2026.

“This reflects the positive impact of the Madani Adopted Village initiative and its significant socio-economic benefits for the local community,” she said.

Shamsul Anuar, who is also Lenggong MP, said the Madani Adopted Village project would bring benefits to the development of the local community.

“This selection (of Kampung Temelong) is a timely and appropriate decision, aligning with Lenggong’s status as a tourism area, which is also receiving attention from both the state and federal governments.”
