Padang Serai MP claims corruption charges against him ‘politically motivated’

SHAH ALAM: Padang Serai MP Datuk Azman Nasrudin has claimed that the corruption charge against him is politically motivated.

Azman, who was charged in court on Monday (Dec 8) for abetting corruption, said the charge against him was to divert attention away from the recent ongoing graft case against former senior political secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd, for allegedly receiving bribes related to mineral exploration licences in Sabah.

“If the government really wants to prosecute corruption, then they should go after the 13 assemblymen involved in the Sabah case.

“There’s already audio and available evidence, yet they have not been charged,” he told reporters in a press conference outside the Shah Alam Court today.

He also accused the government of using its executive power to bring false accusations or slander against its political opponents.

Earlier in court, Azman pleaded not guilty to the charge of abetting corruption to the tune of RM400,000. This case involves a joint venture cattle-farming project owned by the state of Kedah.

The RM400,000 was allegedly received by businessman Amar Assuat Abu Bakar on June 20, 2020, from another businessman, Mohd Hassanaim Fauzi.

This payment was purportedly a reward for assisting Mohd Hassanaim in securing a feedlot project at the Kedah Agro Feedlot Farm from Kedah Agro Holdings Bhd.
