KUALA LUMPUR: The Urban Renewal Bill may not be debated in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Dec 4), the last day the august House meets for the year.
While the Bill is listed for second reading on the Order Paper for Thursday (Dec 4), it is learnt that the order of business comprises the second readings of two Bills under the Home Ministry and a motion tabled by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to suspend Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Baru) for six months.
It is learnt that MPs from the government bloc were asked to be in the House to support the two Bills and the motion, with no mention of the Urban Renewal Bill.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming recently said that the Bill was ready to be re-tabled in Parliament this week.
He said his ministry was fully prepared to bring it forward for a second reading, pending the Leader of the House, who is the Prime Minister, scheduling a time in the Dewan Rakyat.
Nga said this while attending a dialogue on urban renewal here on Sunday (Nov 30), stressing that Malaysia needs a specific urban renewal law to keep pace with rapid urbanisation.
