THE Dewan Rakyat briefly descended into tension when an Opposition MP recited a poem mocking DAP’s performance in the recently-concluded Sabah election.
“Hajiji becomes Chief Minister again, Winning not even 30 seats, Sabah DAP is finished to the point of biting their fingers, My question is number 10,” Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (PN–Tanah Merah) said as he posed his question to the Defence Minister.
His quatrain immediately drew a sharp response from Khoo Poay Tiong (PH–Kota Melaka), who countered that Bersatu had fared no better.
“The same goes for Bersatu, which contested 33 seats and lost its deposit in 30,” he said.
RSN Rayer (PH–Jelutong) also took issue with the poem, saying that it was uncalled for.
Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor, who was chairing the session, then stepped in to restore order and warned MPs against breaching House rules. He reminded members that they must not speak without being called.
“The punishment in my hands is 10 days, and if I am not satisfied, I will refer the matter to the Rights and Privileges Committee for up to six months,” Ramli said.
“This is the final warning. I will be firm because I do not want this House to become a place that fails to carry out its responsibilities properly,” he added.
