KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has hinted that a major Cabinet reshuffle is not on the cards, with only current vacancies set to be filled.
Anwar explained that this is because the Cabinet only has about a year and a half or slightly more to serve.
"So I don’t think a major reshuffle can be carried out.
"However, I am still considering what steps need to be taken, but filling those vacancies is necessary," he told reporters after launching Perodua's first battery electric vehicle, the QV-E, at Menara Miti here on Monday (Dec 1).
Anwar was asked whether or not he would announce a Cabinet reshuffle soon.
There has been speculation that changes are impending, given that there will be four ministerial vacancies soon.
It was reported previously that Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz's tenure as a Senator ends on Tuesday (Dec 2) and with it, his term as a minister.
In addition, Anwar has yet to fill the vacancies in the Economy, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, and Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives portfolios.
Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad resigned as the economy minister and the natural resources and environmental sustainability minister, respectively, in May.
They left their posts following their defeats in the last PKR party elections.
Datuk Ewon Benedick resigned as entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister earlier this month, stating that he would quit if Putrajaya decided to appeal the Kota Kinabalu High Court ruling affirming Sabah’s rights to 40% of net federal revenue derived from the state.
