New role for Tengku Zafrul to be announced on Dec 3, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says he will announce a new role for Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz on Wednesday (Dec 3).

He said the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, who completes his second senatorship term on December 2, still has responsibilities to carry out.

“He will continue to work under his new role which will be announced on Dec 3,” said Anwar.

Tengku Zafrul, who has served as a senator since 2020, completes his six year tenure in the Dewan Negara on December 2.

He was appointed to the Dewan Negara for a second term in December 2022.

Tengku Zafrul was first appointed a senator in 2020 to join the Cabinet under then prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He has since served in multiple administrations including the government led by Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

On November 13, Tengku Zafrul told the Prime Minister he intended to assist his successor after his ministerial tenure ends.
