MACC officer lodges police report over video alleging misconduct involving chief commissioner

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer has lodged a police report over a video clip posted on Facebook that allegedly contains accusations against the MACC chief commissioner.

Sources said the report was filed at the Putrajaya district police headquarters on Thursday (Nov 27), following claims made in the video involving a woman identified as Sofia Rini Buyong and businessman Albert Tei.

"The police report was made to enable the authorities to investigate the allegations mentioned in the conversation, specifically the claim that an individual had met the MACC chief commissioner to request leniency in the case involving Albert Tei, and to have the matter resolved amicably," the source said.

The officer who lodged the report stated that the contents of the video were malicious and intended to tarnish the reputation of the MACC chief commissioner, stressing that MACC investigations are conducted transparently and are not influenced by any party.

"The conversation between the woman and the businessman, as seen in the video, appears to be made in bad faith not only to damage the chief commissioner’s reputation but also to undermine the image and credibility of MACC," the source added.

Meanwhile, the MACC Strategic Communications division confirmed that an officer had lodged a police report, stating that the action was intended to allow authorities to investigate both individuals featured in the video.
