Kundasang-Kauluan-Pinausok road upgrade on track, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: The upgrade of the Kundasang-Kauluan-Pinausok road in Ranau, Sabah, is progressing on schedule and is expected to be completed by September next year, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said the project had reached 23% physical progress as of Aug 31.

“The project is currently under construction and is progressing according to schedule.

“It is expected to be completed by September 2026,” he said in a parliamentary written reply to Datuk Jonathan Yasin (PH-Ranau) on Wednesday (Nov 26).

Approved in 2020 at a cost of RM48.6mil, he said the project involves upgrading an 8km stretch to JKR R2 road specifications and the construction of a bridge.

According to Ahmad Zahid, the implementing agency is the Public Works Department (JKR) Sabah.

He was responding to Jonathan’s question on when the government would consider upgrading the Kundasang-Kundasang Lama-Kinaundusan-Semuruh-Pinausok route, which villagers rely on for economic activities and as a crucial alternative route when the main road is damaged.
