KUCHING: A total of 18 schools in Sarawak have been identified for closed circuit television installation, says Datuk Francis Harden.

The Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister said the Sarawak Education Department was allocated RM270,000, with each school to receive RM15,000.

He said the department will apply to the federal Education Ministry for more funds to expand CCTV installation.

“This initiative aims to enhance safety and monitoring in schools under the department’s jurisdiction,” he said on Wednesday (Nov 26).

He was replying to Adam Yii of GPS for Pujut during question time in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly.

Harden said schools were selected based on criteria including boarding facilities and geographical factors.

“This is to ensure a more strategic and equitable rollout of CCTV installation,” said Harden.

He added the list comprises 17 secondary schools and one primary school.

It was previously reported that the Education Ministry allocated RM8mil for CCTV at selected schools nationwide.

The ministry said this is part of a plan to strengthen safety and address student disciplinary issues.
