Sabah is not anti-govt, says Upko president

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is not anti-government, it just wants its rights, said United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) president Datuk Ewon Benedick (pic).

The Kadamaian assemblyman and Penampang MP said it is not right to call parties fighting for this right as being anti-federal, when they just want what was Sabah’s.

He said Sabah and Sarawak formed the federation of Malaysia with Malaya, and this federation would not be complete without the special rights of both Borneon states.

"This is the same as the rights of other states and we hope they can be honoured as written under the Federal Constitution," Ewon said during a campaign speech for Upko in Kota Belud on Wednesday (Nov 26).

He said the party will continue to push for state rights and be the voice of the people.
