KULAI: A total of 74 undocumented foreigners were detained during an Immigration Department sweep on 10 residential units in Senai.
Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the operation began at 12.45am on Wednesday (Nov 26).
“About 40 enforcement personnel raided the double-storey units after weeks of intelligence gathering and monitoring in the area.
“Many of the foreigners were resting inside the houses that had been turned into living quarters.
“Surprised by our presence, some of them tried to flee or hide in the rooms, but our team managed to detain them,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
He said those detained comprised six Indonesian men, 32 Myanmar men, 14 Bangladeshi men, 18 Myanmar women and two Indonesian women ranging from 18 to 47 years old.
A two-month-old Myanmar baby boy and an Indonesian girl aged four were also taken into custody, he added.
Mohd Rusdi said the detainees were found without valid travel documents or had overstayed their permits.
He said all of them are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and have been sent to the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot.
