Sabah polls: GRS candidate James Ratib misused govt resources on campaign trail, claims Ronald Kiandee

TUARAN: An event to distribute native land titles by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate Datuk James Ratib, who is contesting at Sugut, has been cancelled after a police report was lodged.

According to Perikatan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (pic), who is contesting in Sugut, Ratib had used government resources as the caretaker Sabah Community Development and People's Wellbeing minister.

“The GRS candidate’s campaign in Sugut went overboard, using a government department to campaign and get support.

“The program was cancelled after a police report was made,” said Kiandee in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Nov 25).

“I request the Election Commission (EC) to continue monitoring the GRS candidate for abusing his powers to campaign,” added Kiandee.

According to an event banner, the “Pengukuran Geran Tanah Pantas Paitan” (Pantas) at Kampung Sulit and Binanja was slated to take place on Nov 26 in Paitan town.

Pantas is a programme by the Sabah state government to assist natives to obtain land titles for the land they have occupied and cultivated.

The Sugut seat will see a seven-cornered contest with Warisan, Sabah Umno and others also in the fray.

Sabah will go to the polls on Nov 29.
