Five missing anglers from capsized boat found safe, says MMEA

SHAH ALAM: Five anglers who went missing after their boat capsized in bad weather off Pulau Ketam on Sunday (Nov 23) were found safe on Monday (Nov 24) afternoon.

Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Selangor director Capt (M) Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said the men, comprising four locals and one foreigner aged 23 to 57 years old, were discovered at 4.47pm at a fish cage near Pulau Ketam. They had swum to the cage after their boat overturned.

"They were taken to the Kampung Telok Nipah fishermen's jetty by the boat Penggalang 31 and sent to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang for further action," he stated, mentioning that two men suffered leg injuries due to fish bites.

The MMEA had received a report about the missing anglers after a family member reported them missing on Sunday. The maritime community reported finding an overturned fibreglass boat about 1.5 nautical miles southwest of Pulau Ketam at 12.50pm Monday, leading to the mobilisation of two MMEA assets for a search.

At 4.47pm, the Selangor Maritime Operations Centre received confirmation that the five missing men had been located at the fish cage. – Bernama
