Floods: More than 1,000 evacuees recorded in S'gor so far, says MB

SHAH ALAM: More than 1,000 flood victims have been placed in 14 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) across several districts in Selangor, says Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Mentri Besar said that following this, several follow-up measures and aid will be announced on Tuesday (Nov 25) after the state government reviews the current flood situation.

"Insya-Allah, tonight some state executive councillors (excos) will visit the PPS to see firsthand what is happening, and tomorrow we will hold a special briefing regarding flood management.

"I wish all Selangor assemblymen a safe return to their respective constituencies and please inform us if any support is needed, especially in dealing with flood disasters," he said during his adjournment speech at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting Monday (Nov 24).

Earlier, media reports stated that Amirudin instructed all excos and Selangor government officers to visit victims affected by flooding incidents following heavy rain that hit the state since Sunday (Nov 23).

Amirudin said the state government is updating developments and monitoring the flood situation across Selangor.

Meanwhile, Selangor youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said in a statement that the 14 PPS involve districts in Sabak Bernam, with two centres currently operational; Kuala Selangor (three), Petaling (two), Hulu Langat (four) and Klang (three) as of 7pm Monday.

Mohd Najwan, who is also the state disaster management committee chairman, said that based on information from the State Disaster Management Unit, a total of 1,303 victims from 350 families are currently residing in the PPS.

The Selangor State Assembly then adjourned sine die. - Bernama
