BAGAN DATUK: The Health Ministry will continue enhancing health screenings for prospective haj pilgrims through comprehensive examinations and tests conducted before their departure to the Holy Land, says its minister.
Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the annual screenings involve, among others, checks for chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
"We will continue strengthening these health screenings as part of early preventive care, which includes several important tests and examinations. We have ensured that the current level of screening is good, and we want to maintain this performance compared with other countries.
"We are among the countries that have put in place comprehensive health care measures for prospective haj pilgrims," he told reporters when met at the 2025 National Healthy Malaysia Agenda (ANMS) programme, officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi here on Sunday (Nov 23).
He said this when asked about the measures taken by the ministry to ensure that prospective haj pilgrims remain fit and healthy before travelling to the Holy Land, as well as whether any specific programmes have been proposed to support this objective.
On Oct 21, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said that Malaysia was committed to complying with the new health requirements for the 1447H/2026M haj season recently outlined by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Haj and Umrah.
Mohd Na'im said the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) and the MOH were strengthening the mandatory health screening system to ensure that only genuinely fit pilgrims are allowed to travel to perform the pilgrimage. – Bernama
