THE Johor state government must create more employment opportunities and establish an advisory council to uplift the Indian community, Malaysia Nanban reported assemblyman Vidyananthan Ramanadhan as saying.
The Kahang representative urged the government to open pathways for Indians to serve in the state administration.
Vidyananthan proposed housing aid for low-income Indian families, upskilling and employment initiatives for youth, improving rural Tamil schools and relocating under-enrolled Tamil schools.
> A temple in Penang, which was shuttered due to illegal renovations, was reopened following intervention by the Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB), Makkal Osai reported.
The Arulmigu Sri Dharma Muniswarar Temple in Ayer Itam was closed after the Penang Island City Council found renovation works being carried out without proper permits.
PHEB deputy chairman Dr RA Lingeshwaran met with the Penang mayor, a councillor and two PHEB commissioners to resolve the issue.
It was agreed that the temple could reopen for worship, but no renovation work may proceed without proper authorisation, Dr Lingeshwaran said.
