Potential for Malaysia, Turkiye to strengthen strategic defence cooperation, says Mohamed Khaled

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Turkiye have significant potential to enhance strategic cooperation through technology transfer, joint development, and the involvement of local industries to boost the country's defence capabilities, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The Defence Minister expressed his confidence after hosting a visit from a leading Turkish defence technology company led by ASELSAN CEO and president Ahmet Akyol and Turkish ambassador to Malaysia Emir Salim Yüksel.

"In this meeting, I stressed the need for Malaysia to move beyond the traditional procurement model and improve its procurement strategy towards long-term cooperation that builds national supply chains, strengthens local industry collaboration, and opens up wider market opportunities," he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Nov 19).

Earlier, Mohamed Khaled and Turkiye's Minister of National Defence, Yasar Guler, held a four-point meeting in conjunction with the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 in Istanbul, in July.

The meeting also focused on discussions regarding appropriate cooperation in the military and defence fields that both countries require. – Bernama
