More than RM5.68mil raised for charity and underserved communities

KUALA LUMPUR: More than RM5.68mil was raised for charity and underserved communities at the Mah Sing Foundation (MSF) Charity Fundraising Night 2025.

The event, which also marked the foundation’s 20th anniversary, brought together hundreds of MSF’s donors, partners and beneficiaries for a night to remember.

Themed “Seeds of Hope, Gardens of Change”, the funds raised will support sustainable programmes under MSF’s three core pillars of education, health and well-being, and community development.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming graced the event.

Nga praised MSF and the Mah Sing Group for their unwavering commitment to supporting underserved communities over the past 20 years.

“I am particularly encouraged by the foundation’s focus on high-density urban areas like the People’s Housing Project (PPR) communities.

“Their programmes in mental health, literacy support, entrepreneurship and youth empowerment are helping to build stronger and more resilient families,” Nga said in his speech yesterday.

He also highlighted MSF’s holistic approach to community development by not only providing housing quality, but also in education, skills, safety, health and social cohesion.

“I would also like to acknowledge Mah Sing’s strong track record in delivering quality affordable homes – efforts that directly support the government’s mission to close the homeownership gap, and uplift B40 and M40 families.

“With more than 60 projects delivering thousands of homes nationwide, Mah Sing has proven that affordability and quality can go hand in hand.

“May tonight’s meaningful gathering bring us all closer together, as the funds raised will help us continue creating safe, supportive and sustainable communities across the nation.

“Together, let us cultivate a future where families thrive, communities flourish and no Malaysian is left behind,” he added.

Nga also announced his ministry’s plan to create over 100 community spaces in PPRs by the end of this year to provide residents with a better quality of life and mental well-being.

To further empower the urban poor, Nga said that his ministry had allocated RM12mil under Budget 2026 for the Urban Community Economic Empowerment programme in a strategic partnership with MSF and other non-governmental organisations.

MSF chairman Datuk Indera Syed Norulzaman Syed Kamarulzaman said the funds from the event will be used for more long-term, sustainable programmes under MSF to nurture stronger communities.

He said this includes continuing to support B40 communities, expanding into new areas and tackling key issues that matter most which include education, health and well-being, and community development.

“So as we celebrate 20 years of the Mah Sing Foundation, let us celebrate not only our growth, but that of communities now taking charge of their own future.

“Let us keep planting seeds of hope, nurturing them with care and watching them grow into brighter, stronger communities,” he said in his speech.

As part of the event’s highlights, Indera Syed Norulzaman announced the donation of 350 intraocular lenses from MSF to the Klinik Katarak Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia programme for use in affordable cataract surgeries.

Also present were Star Media Group (SMG) group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt, Mah Sing Group founder and group managing director Tan Sri Leong Hoy Kum and former Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
