Boy stuck in washing machine freed by firefighters

AN 11-year-old boy in Guizhou province, China, got stuck after trying to take a bath inside a washing machine, forcing firefighters to dismantle the machine to free him.

Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported that the parents were forced to call professionals in for help after several failed attempts by them to free their son.

Rescue personnel found the boy’s lower body stuck inside the washing machine drum, with his thigh and foot wedged firmly and unable to move.

He was freed after 20 minutes.

The report, however, did not mention when the incident happened.

> China Press reported that Australian fans have set up a commemorative bench for Hong Kong singer-songwriter Khalil Fong in Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden. He passed away in February.

The bench was completed last Saturday, ahead of the 20th anniversary of his Soulboy album.

Organiser Emily said the process was delayed due to slow local procedures and a damaged plaque that had to be remade.

The plaque bears a message written by Fong’s mother:

“In honour of Khalil Fong Soulboy – Ignite our hearts, rekindle our spirit, and believe that the world is one and mankind its citizens. With Love.”
