KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu MPs are putting up a united front in support of party leaders following weeks of speculation over infighting.
Rompin MP Datuk Abdul Khalib Abdullah said a closed-door discussion between party leaders and lawmakers was held on Tuesday night (Nov 18), to review current developments, strengthen unity and reinforce the party’s political direction.
“This meeting proves that Bersatu’s leadership and its elected representatives continue to uphold the spirit of collective struggle; organisational discipline and the values that have formed the foundation of the party since its formation.
“We stand strong with the president, deputy president and the top leadership entrusted to lead the party and champion the people’s interests without fear or compromise on principles,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 19).
Abdul Khalib said Bersatu MPs were confident the party would remain organised and resilient in the face of ongoing political challenges.
He also added that the solidarity among Bersatu MPs would further reinforce the party’s commitment to integrity, transparency and public welfare.
“With this strong resolve, we believe Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional will continue to serve as a constructive and principled Opposition, to ensure effective checks and balances on the government,” he added.
Last night, a closed-door meeting among Bersatu leaders and lawmakers was held at the residence of party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
While it was rumoured that a protest was organised in support of deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, there was no activity held outside the residence in Bukit Damansara.
Speculations about the party’s internal fighting began to intensify after a government MP “congratulated” vice-president Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Jidin, stating that the latter would be replacing Hamzah as the opposition leader in Parliament.
