PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will visit Ethiopia, South Africa and Kenya for a week, starting today, says his senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah.
The official visits to Ethiopia and Kenya, along with the working visit to South Africa, will use a special chartered flight from Malaysia Airlines, carrying the official delegation and a Malaysian business mission.
“The Prime Minister will begin an important visit to the African continent covering three countries, Ethiopia, South Africa and Kenya, from Nov 18 to 24.
“All three countries offer significant opportunities for cooperation, aligning with the Madani government’s aspiration to diversify markets and strengthen Malaysia’s international standing.
“The visit will start in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where the Prime Minister will pay a courtesy call on President Taye Atske Selassie.
“Both leaders will then participate in the Malaysia-Ethiopia High-Level Business Forum to explore trade and investment opportunities.
“This will be followed by a meeting with Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali and the exchange of several memoranda of understanding (MOU),” he said.
Anwar is also scheduled to meet the chairman of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, and deliver a public lecture to African youth, creating a platform to strengthen Africa-Asia youth relations.
“The Prime Minister will then proceed to Johannesburg to attend the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit as Asean Chair 2025, to represent South-East Asia on key issues.
“In South Africa, he will meet President Cyril Ramaphosa, attend a business forum with South African industry players, engage with Islamic community leaders and meet Malaysians residing in the country,” said Tunku Nashrul.
On Nov 23 in Nairobi, Kenya, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold a one-on-one meeting and bilateral discussions with President William Samoei Ruto, as well as witness the exchange of MOUs.
“The Prime Minister will also deliver a keynote address at the Malaysia-Africa Higher Education Forum (MAHEF 2025), attend the Malaysia-Kenya Business Forum and meet with the Malaysian diaspora and alumni of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) in Nairobi.”
