PORT DICKSON: The formation of the federal unity government involving Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan is not binding, says Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
The Defence Minister said that the two parties only had an agreement to form the Federal Government.
"We are well aware of what happened at the time, which forced us to work together.
“We agreed to this and establish a government and work for the country,” he said when met after attending a programme with army personnel here on Sunday (July 26).
“And now, when the rakyat will decide again, we can see many parties offering themselves to serve,” he added.
This comes following allegations that Barisan was ungrateful to Pakatan, referencing both coalitions’ cooperation to form the unity government.
The arrangement came about following the outcome of the 15th General Election where no coalition secured a majority to form the government.
At the time, Pakatan secured 82 seats while Barisan secured 30.
This led to the unity government’s formation, which included Pakatan, Barisan, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gagasan Rakyat Sabah and others, leaving Perikatan as the sole Opposition.
