KUALA LUMPUR: Medical sick certificates issued solely through virtual consultation (teleconsultation), even by registered medical practitioners, are not allowed, says the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
The council said any sick certificates with any patient can only be issued by medical practitioners after a proper consultation is conducted.
“The MMC has decided that the issuance of medical sick certificates solely following a teleconsultation is not allowed.
“Certificates should only be issued after the registered medical practitioner has performed an appropriate consultation with the patient, which includes history taking, physical examination and investigation where necessary.
“Failure to comply with this directive may result in the registered medical practitioner being subjected to disciplinary procedures by the MMC,” it said in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 18).
