FAM to take FIFA eligibility dispute to court of arbitration for sport

PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will take its case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after FIFA rejected the association’s appeal concerning the eligibility of seven Malaysian heritage players.

In a statement on Tuesday (Nov 18), FAM said they had received the full written reasoning behind FIFA’s decision and would now initiate proceedings with CAS to ensure fairness and uphold the integrity of Malaysia’s player eligibility process.

Acting president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi said FAM remain committed to defending the rights of players who qualify to represent the national team and will pursue the matter professionally, transparently, and through proper legal channels.

"FAM will begin the process of bringing this case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). This step is taken to ensure justice is upheld and to defend the integrity of the player eligibility process set by the Malaysian government and the relevant bodies," he said.
