Thunderstorm warning issued for seven states, KL and Labuan


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected across seven states as well as Kuala Lumpur and Labuan, with warnings in effect until 9pm on Monday (Nov 17).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the affected states were Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah.

Kedah districts of Yan, Kuala Muda, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu are on alert for severe weather.

Penang is also expected to experience adverse conditions.

Areas such as Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim in Perak are forecasted to be affected.

Pahang districts of Bera and Rompin are under the warning.

Selangor areas including Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak and Petaling are anticipated to experience severe weather conditions, along with Kuala Lumpur.

The district of Jempol in Negeri Sembilan is expected to be affected.

Johor areas such as Segamat, Kluang and Mersing are forecasted to experience adverse conditions.

Sarawak divisions of Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Miri (Telang Usan) and Limbang are under the warning.

Sabah's Interior, West Coast, Sandakan (Telupid and Beluran) and Kudat divisions are on alert.

Labuan is also expected to experience adverse conditions.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
