NTU Malaysia alumni raise over RM340,000 for student bursary fund

KUALA LUMPUR: The Nanyang Technological University Alumni Association (Malaysia) [NTUAAM] has successfully launched its bursary fund, an initiative designed to provide financial relief to Malaysian students pursuing studies at Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore).

The landmark initiative was officially launched and celebrated at a Gala Dinner held at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur, drawing close to 100 donors and distinguished guests on Nov 14.

Since its initial announcement in July 2025, the bursary has gained remarkable momentum, raising a total of RM340,100 as of the launch date, moving closer to its RM500,000 first-year target.

NTUAAM president Dr Carrine Teoh stated that the fund is the alumni's way of "paying it forward," ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder the dreams of future generations.

"This bursary is our way of giving back, ensuring that Malaysian students at NTU can focus on their studies without the weight of financial constraints," she said.

She added that the association hopes to nurture a lasting culture of giving through financial support, mentorship, and community-building.

NTUAAM patron Tan Sri Chua Ma Yu, along with NTU deputy president and provost Professor Christian Wolfrum, graced the gala dinner.

Chua described the campaign as a "movement to reconnect Malaysians who once walked the same halls," urging more alumni to contribute and create a "ripple of opportunity."

Beyond immediate financial aid, NTUAAM plans to use the growing fund to implement structured mentorship programmes and closer engagement between the alumni network and current students, building a lasting legacy for the Malaysian NTU community.
