PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will visit Ethiopia, South Africa and Kenya for a week starting Tuesday (Nov 18), says his senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah.
He said the official visits to Ethiopia and Kenya and the working visit to South Africa will use a special chartered Malaysia Airlines flight and added during a special briefing on the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit on Monday (Nov 17) the flight will carry the official delegation and a Malaysian business mission
“The Prime Minister will begin an important visit to the African continent covering three countries from Nov 18 to 24, 2025,” he said.
He said the participation of business representatives aims to drive new economic and investment ties in Africa.
He said all three markets offer wide cooperation opportunities aligned with the Madani government’s goal to diversify markets and strengthen Malaysia’s international standing.
He said the visit will begin in Addis Ababa with a courtesy call on President Taye Atske Selassie.
He said both leaders would then join the Malaysia–Ethiopia High Level Business Forum to explore trade and investment opportunities.
He said a meeting with Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali would follow this along with the exchange of several MoUs.
Anwar is also scheduled to meetAfrican Union Commission chairperson H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
He will deliver a public lecture to African youth to strengthen Africa–Asia youth relations.
“The Prime Minister will then proceed to Johannesburg to attend the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit as the Asean Chair 2025,” he said.
Anwar will represent Southeast Asia’s aspirations on key issues, and also meet President Cyril Ramaphosa as well as attend a business forum with South African industry players.
He said Anwar will engage in dialogue with local Islamic community leaders and meet Malaysians residing in South Africa.
On November 23 in Nairobi, Anwar will hold a one on one meeting and bilateral talks with President William Samoei Ruto.
He will witness the exchange of MoUs.
“The Prime Minister will deliver a keynote address at the Malaysia Africa Higher Education Forum 2025,” he said.
He said Anwar will attend the Malaysia Kenya Business Forum and meet the Malaysian diaspora and MTCP alumni in Nairobi.
“The delegation will return to Kuala Lumpur on Nov 25,” he said.
He said the business mission list was provided by the International Trade and Industry Ministry.
He said companies were chosen based on Malaysian business interests in the three countries and participants include Khazanah Nasional, Tenaga Nasional Berhad and DRB Hicom among others already established in Africa.
He said the special chartered plane allows a direct nine hour flight and is more economical and costs for the official delegation will be borne by the government while business mission costs will be borne by participants.
The Prime Minister will return to Sabah to continue the state election campaign after the trip.
