ACTRESS Jasmine Suraya, 35, was taken by surprise when Pavane For An Infant, the film she stars in, was named Malaysia’s official submission for the 98th Academy Awards in Los Angeles next year.
The film, directed by Chong Keat Aun, is Malaysia’s entry for Best International Feature Film, reported Utusan Malaysia.
Jasmine said she was stunned when informed, as the story explores taboo themes rarely discussed in local society.
“Winning an Oscar is every filmmaker’s dream,” she said, adding that Chong is a brilliant yet underrated director who has earned recognition at Hong Kong, Venice and Golden Horse film festivals.
“When he approached me about playing Nurul in this film, I was thrilled. I’ve long wanted to work with him.”
Jasmine added that Pavane for an Infant tells an emotional story about children abandoned by young mothers.
> Veteran actor Datuk Rosyam Nor, 58, proves age is just a number as he continues performing intense action scenes in his latest film Banduan, the daily also reported.
Rosyam revealed that he personally volunteered for the role.
“Despite my age, I can still do action scenes because I take good care of my health and keep a positive mindset.
“If international actors can perform stunts in their 50s, why can’t I?” he said at the Banduan gala premiere.
“Despite my age, I have no issues performing action scenes because I always take good care of my health,” Rosyam added.
