PPj president Fadlun appointed KL mayor effective Nov 15

PUTRAJAYA: Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud has been appointed as Kuala Lumpur mayor effective Saturday (Nov 15), says Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

In a statement Friday (Nov 14), the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) said the appointment of Fadlun, 58, to replace Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif had received the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, in accordance with Section 4(2) of the Federal Capital Act 1960.

Fadlun holds a Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and has more than 28 years of experience in urban planning, regional development and city management.

"Fadlun has served as PPj President since 2022, and during this period, he has demonstrated outstanding leadership in strengthening the implementation of the Putrajaya Smart City Blueprint 2025, the Putrajaya Green Transformation Plan as well as various urban well-being initiatives based on the principles of inclusivity and sustainability," she said.

Dr Zaliha said Fadlun is also a member of the Board of Town Planners and a Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Planners and his active participation in various international forums and professional networks further strengthens his role as a visionary and forward-thinking urban planner.

"I am confident that with this appointment, he will continue the leadership continuity at Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) with integrity, efficiency and attentiveness to the aspirations of the people.

"His leadership is expected to strengthen the implementation of the CHASE City agenda and ensure that Kuala Lumpur continues to progress as a competitive, liveable global capital anchored on Madani values," she said.

Dr Zaliha also expressed her appreciation to Maimunah for her leadership and contributions throughout her tenure as Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, which significantly enhanced the city's international standing.

"I also extend my congratulations on her latest appointment as PETRONAS property adviser and am confident that her extensive experience will continue to benefit the country's strategic development agenda," she said.

On Thursday (Nov 13), Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said Maimunah would end her service as Kuala Lumpur Mayor on Friday (Nov 14) and begin her role as Petronas property adviser on Nov 17. - Bernama
