DBKL urged to improve lighting, landscaping under highway flyover

KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has been urged to improve the lighting and landscaping of a stretch underneath a flyover on the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE).

A 3km stretch from the Sri Damansara exit to Taman Sri Sinar in Kuala Lumpur is in need of beautification, community activist Yee Poh Ping said.

Citing information contained in a 2019 letter from DBKL, he said the landscape management of the stretch – which runs from Jalan Taman Bukit Maluri to Jalan Lang Emas – was handed over by DUKE concessionaire, Konsortium Lebuhraya Utara-Timur (KL) Sdn Bhd (Kesturi) to DBKL on Nov 1, 2019.

“Seven years have passed, but the stretch is still empty.

“I also highlighted this issue in 2023 and 2025, but DBKL has taken no action.”

Yee said the stretch was very dark at night due to faulty streetlights.

“Most of the lights along the stretch are malfunctioning.

“Meanwhile, the functioning lights are not bright enough.

“This poses a risk to motorists driving at night.

“When I complained about this to DBKL in 2023, I was told that the streetlights were still under Kesturi’s jurisdiction,” he said.

Yee urged DBKL to ensure repairs were carried out on the malfunctioning streetlights along the affected stretch, besides installing more lights.

DBKL had not responded to queries as at press time.
