PETALING JAYA: Thick smoke seen near the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) after the Sentul Toll Plaza on Wednesday (Oct 14) is believed to have been caused by a burning streetlight.

Sinar Harian reported that Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said an inspection carried out by police alongside DUKE highway management confirmed that the smoke originated from a streetlight caught on fire.

"The fire was successfully extinguished, and the incident involved no injuries or casualties," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

He added that the incident occurred at Ramp 0.5 heading from Greenwood toward the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) exit, with follow-up action currently being handled by DUKE highway management.

Earlier, video clips went viral on social media showing dense plumes of smoke enveloping the area near the stretch as vehicles, including motorcycles, passed through.

Social media users had claimed that the smoke was emerging from a drain near the highway, though the exact cause remained unverified until the official police statement.
