PUTRAJAYA: The performance of development projects this year has been less than satisfactory and still requires significant improvement, says Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar (pic).
He said a revised allocation of RM85.87bil had been approved to cover 9,524 projects nationwide.
“Of the total, RM64.03bil has been spent so far, reflecting a national average of 74.56%,” he said.
However, Shamsul Azri said that only 16 ministries managed to surpass the national average in project performance.
He also urged all the secretaries-general across ministries to hold Ministry Development Action Council (MTPK) meetings as scheduled under Directive No. 1 of 2020.
“I would also like to call on the Public Works Department (PWD) to review and reassess the implementation methods of physical projects to ensure they can be carried out more efficiently and effectively,” he added.
Shamsul Azri was speaking at the National Development Awards and Symposium 2025 programme, which was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim here on Wednesday (Nov 12).
Elaborating further, Shamsul Azri said the government was also actively exploring the use of emerging technologies, such as blockchain, to enhance transparency and improve the efficiency of existing public service delivery.
“At present, several government agencies have already begun adopting this technology, including the Marine Department Malaysia through the Digital Seafarer Card, and the Health Ministry with its Vaccine Management System.
“The implementation of these technologies within the public sector presents significant challenges, as government data is highly sensitive, such as health records and citizens’ personal information.
“Therefore, system design must be carried out with great care to ensure that confidential data remains protected and is not exposed,” he added.
