JOHOR BARU: More than 290,000 account holders affected by a sudden water disruption caused by pollution in Sungai Johor will receive a 15% rebate on their October water bills, said Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
He said water supply had been fully restored to all affected areas as of 9pm on Wednesday.
“To ease the burden of those affected, the state government has agreed to a 15% rebate on October 2025 water bills.
“The discount covers 292,158 domestic and non-domestic accounts, including residential homes, places of worship, business premises and welfare institutions, as a gesture of appreciation for the people’s patience in facing this ordeal.
“I realise this assistance may not fully compensate for the hardship endured, but I hope it will help ease the burden and bring some relief to those affected,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Onn Hafiz also apologised to the public and stressed that the state government would ensure those responsible are held accountable.
“On behalf of the state government, I would like to extend my apologies to all Bangsa Johor who were affected.
“The five-day disruption was no small matter – it impacted livelihoods, disrupted family routines, and interrupted operations at schools, hospitals and business premises.
“The state government fully understands the public’s concerns and takes every complaint and challenge faced during this period very seriously,” he said.
He added that inspection teams are still on the ground to ensure stable water pressure and flow.
“The main focus now is to resolve issues such as airlocks, low pressure and intermittent supply to ensure the water received by consumers is stable and of high quality,” he said.
Onn Hafiz also expressed his appreciation to all agencies and frontliners, including Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd, for their dedication in managing the situation.
