Driver injured after car crushed by falling tree

KUCHING: A motorist was injured while two passengers escaped unhurt when a tree fell on their car at Jalan Sultan Tengah here on Wednesday (Nov 5).

Responding to a call at 2.16pm, Fire and Rescue Department personnel found that the vehicle's roof was nearly crushed in the incident.

The department said the male driver sustained a shoulder injury while the passengers - a woman and a boy - were uninjured.

"Members of the public helped the driver and passengers to get out of the car before the arrival of Fire and Rescue personnel.

"The injured victim received initial treatment at the scene from the Malaysian Red Crescent Society," the department said in a statement.

It added that firefighters subsequently carried out a clean-up operation to remove the tree from the road.
