KUALA LUMPUR: The country's public service workforce stood at 1,305,976 personnel as of Sept 24, says Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

Citing data from the government’s Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS), she said the Education Ministry accounts for the largest number of civil servants with 511,345 employees, or 39.15% of the total.

This is followed by the Health Ministry (267,149 employees, 20.45%) and the Higher Education Ministry (104,838 personnel, 8.03%).

Other ministries with notable numbers include the Home Ministry with 60,145 employees (4.6%), the Prime Minister's Department with 43,632 employees (3.34%) and the Rural and Regional Development Ministry with 24,097 personnel (1.91%).

This is followed by Perak with 140,160 civil servants (11%) and Johor with 132,032 (10%).
