JOHOR BARU: Commuters using the BAS.MY service can now enjoy unlimited bus rides at just RM30 a month after the fare was reduced from the original RM50, says Anthony Loke.
The Transport Minister said the reduced rate takes effect immediately and applies to states operating under the stage bus transformation programme (SBST).
“The price reduction applies nationwide wherever BAS.MY services operate such as Johor Baru, Melaka, Seremban, Ipoh, Kota Setar, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Baru and Kangar.
“With this reduction, the cost of travelling on the BAS.MY service is only RM1 a day, or 50 sen for a return trip. I hope the lower price will encourage more people to subscribe to the monthly pass and use public transportation,” he said at the launch of the initiative at a mall in Taman Sutera Utama here yesterday.
He said the initiative was part of the government’s effort to provide affordable public transport and support daily commuters, especially the workforce.
“The RM30 pass will remain in place permanently and must be renewed monthly.
“Senior citizens, students and persons with disabilities do not have to pay for the rides but must apply for concession passes,” he added.
Loke also said there is a rising demand for the bus service in Johor Baru, which currently serves more than 30,000 daily passengers, or over 900,000 monthly riders.
He said three new routes have been added to the bus service in Johor Baru, bringing the total to 21 routes from the previous 18, covering areas in Johor Baru, Iskandar Puteri, Pasir Gudang, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Pontian.
After the event, Loke visited the construction site of the Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link), which connects Johor and Singapore.
He said its progress was on track, with the link’s Wadi Hana depot reaching 91% completion.
Meanwhile, the Bukit Chagar station currently stands at 73% completion, while the Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (ICQ) complex has achieved 76.8%.
The structural works for the station and ICQ building have been completed, with work now advancing to system installation and passenger facilities, he said.
“Passengers boarding from Bukit Chagar station will move through multiple levels – ticketing on level one, Malaysian ICQ on level two, followed by Singapore Immigration clearances on level three – before reaching the boarding platform at the same level,” he said.
Loke added that despite the technical complexity and cross-border coordination required, the project remains on schedule for completion by Dec 31, 2026, ahead of the January 2027 launch.
