Thunderstorm warning issued for nine states and KL


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected across nine states as well as Kuala Lumpur, with warnings in effect until 9pm on Sunday (Nov 2).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the affected states were Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah.

Perlis is on alert for severe weather.

Kedah districts of Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu are under the warning.

Areas such as Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim in Perak are forecasted to be affected.

Kelantan districts including Pasir Mas, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang and Kuala Krai are expected to be affected.

Terengganu areas such as Dungun and Kemaman are anticipated to be affected.

Pahang districts including Cameron Highlands, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Rompin are expected to experience severe weather conditions.

Selangor areas such as Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat are on alert, along with Kuala Lumpur.

Negeri Sembilan districts of Jelebu, Jempol and Tampin are forecasted to be affected.

Johor districts including Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Mersing, Pontian, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru are expected to experience adverse conditions.

In Sarawak, Kuching, Serian and Sibu (Sibu and Kanowit) are anticipated to be affected.

Sabah's Sandakan (Telupid, Beluran and Sandakan) division is also under the warning.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
